Letter to Then-Senator Barak
Obama (D-IL) in support of S. 2227, the Success in the Middle Act, November
2007: The Middle Grades Coalition on NCLB expresses their
appreciation to the Senator for introducing this important legislation. The plan
would provide grants to states to help ensure that all students exit the middle
grades prepared for success in a high school with an academically rigorous
curriculum that prepares students for post secondary education and the
workplace. In addition, the bill would help states and districts provide
leadership, intensive intervention, and technical assistance to improve
low-performing schools that contain middle grades.

Middle Grades Coalition on NCLB Recommendations for the Reauthorization of the
No Child Left Behind Act to House Education Committee, September 2007:
The organizations that formed the Middle Grades Coalition on NCLB developed a
set of recommendations for House Education Committee Chair George Miller (D-CA)
and Ranking Member Bud McKeon (R-OH) on the key ingredients necessary to include
in the NCLB Reauthorization to help raise the academic achievement of our
nation’s 15 million middle grades students and give them the opportunities they
need to succeed.
